[00:00:03] Thanks for joining Beartown Stories. In our house, we love stories. Almost every day, our kids ask us to tell them a story. That was a story! Okay, so we thought we'd record some stories for them to keep and to share with you. With this podcast, our goal is to inspire childlike imagination, spark creativity, and encourage a desire to learn. We hope you enjoy the Blueberry Kids present Spring Magazine.
[00:00:57] Delicious! Thank you! Can I have another one? Mommy, do you want one? Want one what? A pie! Sure! What flavors do you have? We have mud, mud, the other one. Oh yeah! Mud pie!
[00:01:30] I'll try the mud pie then. Coming right up! Thank you! Mmm, smells great! What's that wiggly thing in my pie though? Let me see. Oh, that's a worm. A worm? Actually, that'll go perfect with the salad. Where's your salad? It hasn't grown yet. It hasn't grown?
[00:02:00] That's right. Come see. This is where we're going to plant it. A salad? No, the seeds. We'll put the lettuce seeds in here and in a few months we'll have enough for a salad. Ooh, that's exciting. But you want a worm in your salad? I was kidding. I was just looking over the garden beds to see what I need to do to get it ready now that it's spring. And I think the worm will be great. Right here in the dirt where it can help the soil be happy.
[00:02:30] And I think the mud pie will go great right here. Oh, you're asking for it now.
[00:02:47] Me for. I do love mud fights though.
[00:03:22] I like mud. Look at Simon! He looks like a mud monster. You weren't supposed to get any on Simon, you sillies. I liked it! Let's go wash off by the stream. Okay, but don't go too far. I'm going to take Simon inside to get him cleaned up. Okay. Okay.
[00:03:58] I'm so glad all the snow has melted. Finally. Well, mostly. It felt like it was going to be winter forever. Ah, the water is so cold. It's freezing! Why is it so cold?
[00:04:24] It's probably because all the snow that melted was cold. That's better. Except our clothes are all still muddy. Well, I'm not taking a bath in this freezing water. Me either. Let's go back now. The water is too cold to play in anyways.
[00:04:59] Do you hear that? I don't hear anything. Oh wait! What is that sound? I don't know. Let's go tell Mommy. For round two, I see.
[00:05:27] Well, I have a special dessert for you, right? No, no, no! No! No, no, no! We just got all clean. Well, mostly. I was kidding. We heard a strange sound over the tree. A strange sound? What did it sound like? Green! That does sound interesting.
[00:05:53] You know, there are a lot of new sounds and sights this time of year that are signs that spring is here. There's a sign? What does the sign say? I mean signs as in the different things you see and hear that let you know it's spring. Like, what is different now compared to how it was in the winter? Oh. Do you know some signs of spring? Grass! Green leaves! And that funny sound we heard.
[00:06:21] Why don't you guys make a list of all the signs of spring? Like a little catalog. Oh yeah! That sounds like fun. Let's go! I taped some green grass on this page. Whoa, nice, Mary.
[00:06:45] Once we get enough pages, we'll put them all in a three-ring binder for a catalog. Oh, here's a feather! Here's my page. Thomas! It's all covered in mud. I know. I like mud. Plus, it's a sinus green. True.
[00:07:12] Well, we'll have to let it dry out before we put it in so it doesn't ruin the other pages. Hmm, what else? Oh! A new green leaf! Seems like spring likes the color green. That's my favorite dollar. And Daddy's favorite dollar, too.
[00:07:40] I hear some birds. How do we put what we hear on the page? Hmm, we could draw a picture of what we hear, I guess. Speaking of hearing stuff, I think I hear that weird sound again. Oh, yeah, I hear it, too. I wonder what it is. Whoa!
[00:08:10] What is it? It's a weasel. Thomas, there are no weasels. It's a... Well, it's just... What is that? I don't know. That's your mommy and daddy! Let's draw a picture of it for the catalog first, in case it runs away. Good idea.
[00:08:39] We call it the spring magazine. Oh, I like that. Let me see. Seed! Good idea. I can tape one on this page. This looks great. Why is this page all wet, though? I found a small pile of snow. Tried to tape some on it, but not it. I see.
[00:09:08] It looks like you found some more mud, too. What's this? Oh, yeah! Remember that strange sound we heard? Well, we found what was making that sound. And this is what it looked like. What is it? Hmm... It looks kind of like... Weasel, weasel! Thomas! Well, it's hard to say, but he might be right. What? What? Really?
[00:09:36] Let's find Daddy and see what he thinks. Then let's go see if it's still there. Okay. Where was it that you saw it? Well, we heard it first. By the creek. Over there. We were getting cleaned off from our mud fight. I see. That explains Mommy's hair. And your shards.
[00:10:08] I didn't get it all out. Wait, so I over by those logs. We were finding stuff for a catalog. Hmm... What color was it? Brown. It had a white belly. You sure it wasn't a chipmunk? Yeah, it was longer. Okay, well, maybe it's... Oh, wait. What's that? Over there. That's it! It's not a chipmunk.
[00:10:38] It looks like it's... Daddy, is it a weasel? Thomas, I think you found a real weasel. Yay! A weasel! A weasel! Wait. What if he tried to eat that? Thomas? Thomas! How about that? And here we were thinking there were no weasels in this area. Can we keep it? Keep it?
[00:11:08] What do you think the cats would think about that? Do you think it would stay? There's no knowing for sure, but as long as no other animals try to... Uh-oh! Oliver, wait! No, don't! And there it goes. Yeah. Well, I guess that explains why we haven't ever seen any weasels here before. And why we can't keep a weasel. And...
[00:11:36] Now we don't have to worry about Oliver getting eaten by a weasel anymore. Thanks again for joining us. We hope you enjoyed this episode. Can you tell another story? We will, don't worry. If you like what we do, we invite you to share this show with your friends,
